Rift Mage Leveling Guide

This is the perfect Rift Mage Leveling Guide for anyone feeling as if they’re stuck in Rift, not knowing what to do as their class, or just looking for the best way to manage themselves playing their class. In this Rift Mage Leveling guide we’ll discuss the best builds, rotations, and gameplay style for playing the Mage class in rift.

Rift Mage Leveling Guide Tip #1 – Soul Selection

Okay, we’ll start out with which souls you should choose while conducting your rift mage leveling experience. The first soul as well as your main soul you will be using is Necromancer, the reason being that Necromancer brings a pet to the table which is dominant for leveling in any MMORPG.

Pets are fantastic for leveling, especially the Skeletal Horror you’re given in the Necromancer soul. This pet deals an extensive amount of damage as well as takes a beating very well, even at early levels you’re able to start pulling multiple enemies at once.

Keep in mind you do not have to play the Necromancer soul, however, it is definitely the easiest for leveling and highly recommended. Remember that in Rift you’re able to choose up to 4 different roles and in each you can use different souls so you’ll be able to switch it up if you find yourself getting bored of one.

Your second “off-soul” you will want will be Warlock, but keep in mind that if you change your mind and don’t want to play Necromancer you may not want to keep these off-souls as they won’t work as well with all main souls. One of the reasons Warlock makes a great compliment to Necromancer is that you are given two DoTs very early on, Life Leech which also heals you and Dark Touch. This is great for pulling multiple mobs, dotting them, and having your pet tank and damage them at the same time.

Your third and final off-soul is Dominator which really only works great with Necromancer and Warlock, and is really only viable as a third soul because you don’t need or want to put points into it. Neural Prod is available right away and deals some decent damage for being a 0pt talent, also you’re given access to Transmogrify which is great for crowd control.

Rift Mage Leveling Guide Tip #2 – Talent Point Allocation

Okay great, we’ve got our souls set up, but where should we put our talent points? If you follow this Rift Mage leveling guide you’re going to be leveling faster then you’d ever have imagined. First of all you’re going to want to put 5 points into Death’s Ally and 3 points into Flesh Rot. In doing this you will additionally unlock the Grave Rot ability.

You’ll notice in rift that there becomes a point where you have talent points but you can’t use them in your main soul despite still having talents available. This was implemented to encourage people to put talents into multiple souls even at an early level, therefore you should put your first three excess points into Life Leech into the Warlock tree.

Rift Mage Leveling Guide Tip #3 – The Actual Leveling tips and tricks

Now for the really fun part of rift mage leveling, actually doing it and being successful at it. This Rift Mage leveling guide will mainly focus on pulling multiple mobs (which is a lot more fun and efficient then just going one at a time) First you’ll want to find the appropriate quest mobs you need to kill and cast Life Leech from a safe distance on two or three of the mobs.

Keep in mind while doing this to keep your pet on passive so it doesn’t run up and keep your first enemy at range and the other one or two in your melee range, you want all of them to come to you rather then your pet going to them. Pet control is very important to leveling in any pet class, but as I was saying keep it on passive and when the enemies get close send it in to to attack.

Once you’ve finished casting Life Leech on all of your enemies you’ll want to cast Dark Touch and Necrosis on each of the monsters as you did with Life Leech. Fortunately, both of these abilities are instant casts so you don’t need to worry about enemy attacks slowing your cast or just worrying about them taking too much time in general.

Now that you’ve got multiple enemies in your face all taking damage from your DoTs you’re going to want to use your Grave Rot ability, not only will this do even more damage over time to all of your enemies but it also increases your pet’s damage. Now that you have 4 DoTs and your pet on multiple enemies you don’t have to worry about much else, but in the case that they just aren’t dying fast enough for you this is why we choose Dominator. You can use the Neural Prod instant cast spell that we talked about earlier to finish these mobs off even faster.

It’s important that you don’t try using Void or Plague Bolt if you’re being hit by enemies, the amount of damage compared to Neural Prod doesn’t match up if you’re being hit and your cast time is being slowed. The Skeleton Stalwart pet is great for holding aggro on even multiple enemies that you’ve got your DoTs rolling on if you are able to manage it properly.

This is going to be your gameplay for a while, but eventually you’ll be getting more and more talent points and more abilities and you can begin to switch things up a bit. Use your talents to your liking and do your best the Soul Purge ability as soon as you’re able to. This spell does a heavy amount of damage as well as healing you and your pet.

Once you’re able to start casting Soul Purge you won’t even have to worry about applying Life Leech to your targets and also you can pull even more enemies with a lot more ease. Another perk to this is that you can kill Elite mobs a lot easier as your pet can tank it and you can keep it healed while damaging the Elite.

After you’ve got Soul Purge you can start going in a number of different directions, which is going to be up to you depending on how you want to play your character. Here’s a little list of all the abilities you will want to pick up along the way.

In the Necromancer soul you will want: Life Bane, Feign Death, Ancient Tomb, Empty the Crypts, Lich Form

Warlock: Lingering Pain, Neddra’s Torture, Neddra’s Grasp, Neddra’s Influence, Draining Bolt, Dark Power, Shadow Life, Improved Warlock Armor

Working in your Warlock and Necromancer souls together makes a fantastic leveling build, as well as a pretty decent damage build for instances, lots of dots, big damage abilities, self heals, and a sweet pet to top it all off.

Now if you follow this Rift Mage Leveling guide you’re going to be set and should have no problem leveling at a very fast rate.
